How Bail Bonds Work in Orange County

Bail is a procedure used to secure a defendant's appearance in court. A bail bond is an insurance bond issued from an agent that financially guarantees the appearance of a defendant. To obtain a bail bond typically two things are needed, an arrangement for premium and security. If a defendant does not qualify alone, typically a relative, friend, or other associate signs along with the defendant.

The premium is the cost to buy the services of a bail agent. Generally speaking the premium is 10% of the total bail amount. We offer many payment plans on bail premium.

Security is not always necessarily needed to guarantee a bond. The full bail amount does not need to be paid as long as the defendant appears in court each and every time so ordered by the court, but if the defendant fails to appear and runs away to places unknown, whoever signed to guarantee the appearance of the defendant is liable for the full bail amount. If the defendant fails to appear due to extenuating circumstances (such as illness, jail, hospital, etc), we present proof to the court and they can reinstate the bond after a defendant reappears.
